We went to Asheville last weekend for a Father's Day getaway and had the best time adventuring. I found our rental listing & it was love at first sight! I asked Mac if he was in for an adventure & he agreed that he was in and excited no matter what it was. He said "Just book it! It will be fun whatever it is!" So that was it, I booked it right away.
We started out the day visiting Caesars Head & then hiking High Falls at Dupont State Forest. After that we headed to a cute little spot for lunch that we passed on the way down the mountain. They also had panning and Mason couldn't have been more excited to look for "crystals". We then headed on to Weaverville, just a few minutes outside Asheville, where out rental was. We pulled in and parked, you can't see the camper from where you park, so that made it even more fun. It was a short, maybe 1/4 mile walk, to the rental, down through the owners garden/farm, and off the left. We rounded the corner and there in the woods they got to finally see where we were staying! Their faces completely lit up, Mac especially was so surprised lol He said he knew it was going to be something fun and different, but a 1964 airstream camper had not crossed his mind. They were all so excited, we ran in to explore & get settled! We then headed to dinner and to a local park/playground after that. My goal was to wear the kids out so much that day that they could literally have fallen asleep anywhere ny nightfall. It worked, y'all! When we got back later that night, everyone, including Mac, was sound asleep by 8:15!
That day, with the most tender & sincere voice Mason had said "This is the most fun thing I've EVER done, mommy." And he probably said that again 5 times throughout the day.
I sat in bed for a while just looking out the window over the gorgeous mountain view while the sun set, just thinking about that statement. My whole family curled up in one vintage 1964 airstream camper, my heart all in one little room, all within my arms reach. Thankfulness washed over me as I sat reflecting on the day & taking in the view inside & outside the camper.
Calmness. Simplicity. Proximity.
Mason was telling me out of all the things we've done.... that day of hiking to waterfalls, playing on a farm & staying in a refurbished camper in the woods with an outdoor shower + composting toilet was at the top of all the adventures to him. I smiled because it tops my list also.
The next morning we headed to the WNC Nature Center, one of our faves, then to the Sierra Nevada Brewery. We sure are thankful for Mac & loved celebrating him with such a fun weekend. I'm so thankful I get to adventure through life with this crew, and that they love adventuring as much as I do. "Glamping" as we called it all weekend, will definitely be a repeat adventure for us!
